For social progress, literacy occupies an important place, without which individual and social progress is not possible. Literacy is the first step to progress. What should the approach and how to organise literacy is the major issue. The approach to literacy can be seen merely as an issue of the 3 R’s and some awareness or as linked with social change. We know that society is constantly under change. But it is important to recognise as to what direction this change is headed.
