An endeavour has been made in the present work to give an authentic, impartial and realistic picture of social life in ancient Kashmir. The information for this work has been derived from, literary works, epigraphical evidence, sculptural and archaeological data, and accounts of foreign travellers and historians. The vast amount of literature in Sanskrit written during this period is a mine of information regarding the life and culture of the people.
