A variety of polarities spring up between individuals, groups and communities in the novels of Shashi Deshpande. Besides the usually treated polarity between husband and wife we have in Shashi Deshpande’s novels polarities between a parent and a child, between a brother and his sister, between cousins, between families, between castes, and between communities. In many a case the polarity takes a serious turn and usually results in a death or even multiple deaths.
